Abu Dhabi to Dubai Taxi Fare: Cost and Alternatives

hamintour travel guides / city-to-city fares

A taxi from Abu Dhabi city to Dubai is priced by the journey you actually take, not by the names of the two cities. Use the official city taxi tariff, your exact Dubai address and a realistic route distance to compare a direct ride with the intercity bus.

Short answer: For a regular silver taxi collected in Abu Dhabi city, the published day tariff works out to about US$1.36 to start + US$0.50 per kilometre, with waiting, an app booking fee where applicable and any road charges extra. If the meter records 120–160 km, that base-plus-distance calculation is roughly US$61–81 per vehicle, not a quoted Abu Dhabi–Dubai price. Your actual route could be shorter or longer. The alternative intercity bus from Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station is listed at about US$6.81 per person to a Dubai bus station, before transport to and from either station.

This guide starts in Abu Dhabi city: a hotel, central bus station, Corniche, Al Maryah Island or another address you enter in the app. It does not start at Zayed International Airport (AUH), whose airport taxi flagfall and direct coaches are different. If you are landing there, use our AUH-to-Dubai airport guide. Here, the traveller’s real question is “What will a taxi from my Abu Dhabi pickup to my Dubai hotel cost, and when does the bus still make sense after the last leg?”

How the Abu Dhabi city taxi fare is calculated

Abu Dhabi Mobility’s silver-taxi tariff publishes a city pickup charge, a per-kilometre rate, a per-minute waiting charge and a booking fee for a dispatched ride. Converted using the UAE dirham’s US-dollar peg, the ordinary daytime components are approximately US$1.36 initial charge, US$0.50 per kilometre, US$0.14 per waiting minute and US$1.09 booking fee if booked through the relevant channel. The nighttime initial charge is approximately US$1.50 and the booking fee about US$1.36. The published minimum city ride is about US$3.27; a trip to Dubai will exceed it.

These are converted tariff components, not a promise that an app will quote exactly that amount. The taxi meter shows payment in local currency. Your final cost may also include road charges and any terms shown by the booking provider. Ask for the estimated total and what it includes before accepting. A fixed-price app car or private transfer has its own contract rather than this public-taxi arithmetic.

Distance recorded by meterApproximate base + distanceWhat is excluded
100 kmUS$51 per vehicleWaiting, applicable booking fee, any Salik or other road charges, and differences in actual metered distance or operator pricing
120 kmUS$61 per vehicle
140 kmUS$71 per vehicle
160 kmUS$81 per vehicle

Use the table correctly: the kilometre rows are examples, not stated distances from your hotel to any named Dubai neighbourhood. Get the routed distance or a current estimate for your two exact pins, then use the nearest row. Each extra 10 km adds about US$5 at the published silver-taxi kilometre rate. Twenty minutes of metered waiting adds about US$2.72, before any other charge. Traffic also increases travel time even when the route distance stays similar.

Dubai’s Salik toll system uses variable pricing. A route to Downtown, Deira or Dubai Marina may pass a different number of gates, or avoid them, depending on the road and time. Do not add an invented flat “Dubai border fee” to the calculation. Ask the driver or app how tolls are handled. Abu Dhabi’s Darb information describes an exemption for authorised public taxis in Abu Dhabi; this is another reason not to assume a private-car toll estimate applies identically to a licensed Abu Dhabi taxi.

The road-time range is an allowance for planning, not an operator guarantee: a western Dubai stop and an eastern Dubai hotel produce different journeys, and congestion changes both. The RTA’s E100 timetable shows around two hours or more for its central-station-to-Al-Ghubaiba leg on many departures; E101’s destination is closer to western Dubai. A bus arrival at either station still leaves you to reach the hotel. Add the initial Abu Dhabi journey, waiting for departure and the final Dubai Metro or taxi before comparing total time.

How to book a taxi from Abu Dhabi city

  1. Enter the correct pickup. Use the hotel entrance, Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station taxi area or another precise city address. The Corniche, Yas Island and the airport are not interchangeable starting points. A route from a western suburb may be shorter than one from central Abu Dhabi; an eastern island can change the approach.
  2. Enter the exact Dubai destination. “Dubai” alone is insufficient. Add the hotel reception, apartment tower, Dubai International Airport terminal or named attraction entrance. Show the pin to the driver and confirm the intercity trip is accepted before loading luggage.
  3. Choose the booking channel. Abu Dhabi Mobility offers an Abu Dhabi Taxi app and call centre. You can also ask your hotel to arrange a licensed taxi. An app may display a current estimated price and pickup location; a hotel-arranged ride may involve a dispatch fee. Check the actual option and fare terms shown.
  4. Check vehicle and payment. Count passengers and bags, request a child seat or accessible vehicle in advance if needed, and ask how the final fare can be paid. The official payment list includes cash and several digital methods; verify your preferred method with the particular vehicle or app rather than assuming a physical foreign bank card always works.
  5. Keep a record. Save the booking, vehicle details and receipt. If a route or charge needs clarification, the operator can investigate more easily with a trip record. Abu Dhabi Mobility lists a taxi contact channel for service questions.

For a private transfer, request the entire price in writing and confirm whether it includes waiting, parking, tolls, child seats, extra stops and hotel drop-off. Some services price by vehicle type rather than meter distance. A fixed quote can be helpful for budgeting, but compare it with the licensed taxi estimate to the same Dubai pin. A driver should not ask you to accept an unexplained cash-only price after a supposedly metered booking.

How your Dubai destination changes the decision

Dubai Marina, JBR and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

These western Dubai districts are the most natural match for E101 to Ibn Battuta if you are travelling light and the Metro is operating. The RTA route list confirms the Ibn Battuta connection. From there, use the Red Line toward DMCC or Sobha Realty for suitable Marina and JLT addresses; a tram or short taxi may still be needed for a waterside hotel or JBR. Compare that last fare and effort with a taxi that goes directly to reception.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

These destinations are farther east along the city than Ibn Battuta. E101 plus Red Line can work for a hotel near Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall or Business Bay Metro stations; check the actual walking route, especially with cases. E100 reaches Al Ghubaiba instead, with a different Metro connection. A direct taxi saves changes and is often more attractive when a group shares the vehicle or the hotel is far from a station. The added road distance and possible Salik gates also make the metered total different from a western Dubai quote.

Bur Dubai, Deira and Dubai Creek

E100 to Al Ghubaiba usually makes more geographic sense for Bur Dubai or some Creek-side stays than travelling first to Ibn Battuta. But Al Ghubaiba is still a station, not every hotel entrance. A destination in Deira may need the Metro, an abra where appropriate, or a taxi across the Creek. Check the exact route after the E100 arrival and any late-night rail limitations. A direct city taxi is simplest for a hotel beyond a comfortable station walk.

Palm Jumeirah, Dubai airports and other outlying addresses

For Palm Jumeirah, a Metro ride only solves part of the last leg; many hotels require another taxi or local connection. If your destination is DXB, enter its specific terminal and leave generous time for check-in and security. DWC is a separate airport much farther to the south; do not use a DXB taxi quote or bus plan for it. A direct transfer may be the safest practical choice for a flight connection, but road congestion still matters. For a trip starting at AUH rather than city centre, read the separate AUH airport route guide.

The cheaper alternative: E100 or E101

Abu Dhabi Mobility lists a Dubai inter-emirate ticket at approximately US$6.81 per passenger, with departures from Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station. The RTA e-ticket page identifies E100 to Al Ghubaiba and E101 to Ibn Battuta. Both begin at the city bus station; neither collects you from an arbitrary hotel or the AUH arrivals hall. For service on your date, check the RTA timetable or S’hail. Holiday service and the last practical connection to your hotel can change.

  1. Get to Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station. Price the city bus or taxi from your pickup. Walking from a nearby hotel might work, but check the entrance and heat.
  2. Choose the Dubai station by destination. E101 goes to Ibn Battuta for western Dubai; E100 goes to Al Ghubaiba for Bur Dubai and connections elsewhere. Do not choose solely by which bus leaves first if the wrong Dubai terminus adds a long last leg.
  3. Buy the appropriate intercity ticket. Abu Dhabi Mobility lists purchase at the station’s customer offices; RTA also advertises online e-ticketing for E100 and E101. Follow the current instructions for the direction and departure you select. Have any required identification and your confirmation available.
  4. Finish from the Dubai station. Add Metro, taxi or a walk to the actual hotel. RTA’s Metro station map helps with the onward journey, but the final station-to-door walk can matter as much as the train ride.

The bus is often the strongest budget choice for one person. For a group, multiply the intercity ticket by the number of travellers, then add a city ride to the Abu Dhabi station and a Dubai last-leg ride if needed. A family of four pays approximately US$27.24 in intercity tickets alone, before those local trips. This can still undercut a direct car, but the saving is smaller than comparing one US$6.81 ticket with a whole taxi fare.

When is the taxi worth the extra money?

One traveller, little luggage, flexible arrival: E100 or E101 plus a local connection usually wins on ticket cost. Check the station closest to your Dubai address and leave room for a missed connection or Metro closing time.

Two or more sharing: divide a whole taxi fare by the number of legal seats you can use. At a hypothetical US$71 base-plus-distance meter total, four travellers split roughly US$17.75 each before waiting and road charges. They would pay about US$6.81 each for the intercity bus, plus their first and last rides. The practical difference may be worth paying for a door-to-door journey and fewer luggage moves.

Child, mobility or bulky-baggage requirements: contact the taxi operator or book a suitable transfer in advance. Do not assume an ordinary saloon taxi comes with a child seat, wheelchair support or space for four large suitcases. The least expensive standard ride is not useful if it cannot legally and comfortably carry your party.

Late-night hotel arrival or timed flight: check both the intercity bus and the onward Metro, not just the first bus departure. A direct car avoids a station change, but plan a traffic buffer. A pre-booked driver can make pickup more predictable if your hotel entrance is hard to locate or your departure time is critical.

Return from Dubai to Abu Dhabi: do not assume the Abu Dhabi silver-taxi calculation also prices a taxi starting in Dubai. Dubai uses its own taxi tariff and booking options. For public transport, E100 and E101 run in both directions but the stop, timetable and ticket arrangement must be checked for your return date. If you are returning to AUH rather than Abu Dhabi city, allow the additional bus-station-to-airport leg or choose the airport-specific route.

Abu Dhabi to Dubai taxi fare: frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Abu Dhabi city to Dubai?

There is no honest single fare for every origin and destination. The published regular silver-taxi day tariff is about US$1.36 to start plus US$0.50 per kilometre, before waiting, any booking fee and applicable road charges. A 120–160 km meter-distance example gives roughly US$61–81 for base plus distance; obtain a live estimate for your two exact pins.

Is the taxi price per person or per car?

A regular metered taxi fare is per vehicle within its permitted passenger and luggage capacity. A transfer operator may quote a whole car or van; verify what the booking includes. Intercity bus tickets are per passenger.

Does the city taxi use the AUH airport starting fare?

No. The official tariff separates an Abu Dhabi city silver-taxi pickup from an airport taxi pickup. This article calculates from a city address. For a journey starting at AUH, use the airport fare and the separate airport-to-Dubai guide.

Can a regular Abu Dhabi taxi take me to Dubai?

Confirm the intercity destination with the driver or booking dispatcher before the ride. Give the exact Dubai address and ask how the meter, any tolls and payment will be handled. If the requested ride is unavailable, compare another licensed taxi or a booked transfer.

Are Salik tolls included in the taxi fare examples?

No. The table shows only the published city start and per-kilometre rate. The number of Dubai toll gates and their time-dependent charge can vary with the route; check the quote or meter details for your trip.

Can I pay by card?

Abu Dhabi Mobility lists cash and several digital payment channels, including online credit-card payment through the Abu Dhabi Taxi app. Check the method available in the vehicle or app you actually book, especially if you have only an international physical card.

Which bus goes from Abu Dhabi city to Dubai?

E101 goes from Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station to Ibn Battuta Bus Station. E100 goes from the same Abu Dhabi station to Al Ghubaiba Bus Station. Check the current schedule and choose the Dubai terminus nearer your final address.

What does the bus cost?

Abu Dhabi Mobility lists the Dubai inter-emirate ticket at about US$6.81 per person, paid locally. Add the journey to Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station and the Metro, taxi or walk from the Dubai terminus to your destination.

How long should I allow?

A direct road trip is often planned at roughly 1½–2½ hours depending on the pickup, Dubai destination and traffic; this is not a guaranteed time. E100’s published station-to-station schedule is around two hours or more on many trips, and a bus journey also needs first and last legs.

Is an app car or private transfer cheaper?

Sometimes, but there is no universal answer. Ask for a live all-in quote to the same Dubai pin and compare vehicle capacity, tolls, waiting, cancellation and luggage terms with a licensed taxi estimate.

Is the fare the same from Yas Island or the airport?

No. A different origin changes the driven distance, and AUH uses a separate airport start charge. Use the exact pickup pin, not a generic “Abu Dhabi” quote.

Does E101 take me to Dubai Marina or my hotel?

It ends at Ibn Battuta Bus Station. You may continue by Red Line, tram or taxi depending on the hotel’s entrance. Do not treat the intercity ticket as a door-to-door transfer.
