Sharjah Airport to Dubai Marina: Bus or Taxi?

hamintour travel guides / airport transfers

There is no Dubai Metro station at Sharjah Airport and the airport coach does not drop you at a Marina hotel. A taxi or booked car is the simplest door-to-door choice. For a lower-cost trip, check the Air Arabia coach to Al Shindagha or take Sharjah bus 99 to Al Jubail and an intercity bus to Dubai, then continue by metro, tram or taxi.

The choice in one minute: A taxi takes you to the hotel in one vehicle. Air Arabia’s free coach reaches Al Shindagha at its listed departure time, so you still need a Dubai connection. Route 99 plus intercity and Dubai buses offers more departure choices but requires two changes before your final walk or ride.

Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) can be a useful arrival point for a Dubai trip, especially if your flight lands there rather than at Dubai International (DXB). But “Dubai” on a coach sign is only a city-level destination. Dubai Marina sits on the other side of the city from the coach drop-offs around historic Dubai. Before choosing a service, count every leg: leaving arrivals, reaching Dubai, changing to the metro or a car, and getting to your accommodation. This guide by hamintour travel guides focuses on that complete journey rather than an advertised airport-to-city travel time.

The airport’s transport overview confirms local Muwasalat buses, Air Arabia coaches and airport taxis. Air Arabia’s own shuttle page is the best starting point for its coach’s live pickup, booking and schedule details. Those details can change; check them again against your flight before relying on a connection.

Which route makes sense for your arrival?

How to read the table: The rounded hotel times are planning inferences from the linked operator and route-planner legs, not published door-to-door guarantees. They begin when you board the first vehicle, so add your wait after clearing arrivals. The coach has a fixed listed departure; missing it can make the real arrival-to-hotel time much longer. Taxi prices vary with the meter, tolls, traffic and exact hotel. The shuttle fare covers only the coach; Dubai rail fare depends on the ticket and zones, and any final tram or taxi costs extra. A new Silver nol card costs AED 25 with AED 19 credit, separate from the fare used. The bus estimate ends at DMCC, so it excludes a paid hotel transfer. Check current fares and connections before travelling.

Official taxi: the simplest door-to-door route

After baggage claim and customs, follow the airport signs to the taxi stand at arrivals. Sharjah Airport’s taxi page says official taxis operate around the clock and use meters. It also lists family, ladies-only and limousine options. Tell the dispatcher and driver that your destination is Dubai Marina in Dubai, then show the hotel’s map pin or address. Confirm that the car can take the cross-emirate trip before loading every bag.

Ask how the meter, airport pickup charge and any road tolls will be handled. Do not agree to an unrecorded cash “airport rate” from someone approaching you inside the terminal. If you need a receipt, an accessible vehicle, extra luggage room or a child seat, arrange it with the official taxi desk or a booked operator before boarding. A standard sedan may not fit four travellers and four large suitcases; a second car or larger vehicle can erase an apparently cheap quote.

Show the hotel entrance on a map before departure. The metered total can differ from the table’s district estimate, so check a live estimate or ask the official dispatcher about airport charges and tolls.

When a private transfer earns its price

A pre-booked car or van is worth considering when the arrival is overnight, someone needs assistance, you are travelling with children, or the group requires a particular vehicle size. Give the provider your flight number, passenger count, number and size of cases, child-seat requirement and exact hotel. The booking confirmation should say where the driver will meet you after customs, what happens if the flight is late and when any waiting charge begins.

Compare a written total against the taxi option. Ask whether the total includes airport parking, tolls, waiting time, a stop en route and the final approach to your hotel. If the provider promises flight tracking, check how long it will actually wait after touchdown; passport control and baggage collection can take longer than expected. Keep the provider’s contact method available offline. A transfer is useful because the pickup is arranged, not because the road itself is faster than the taxi route.

Air Arabia coach: check the seat and the Dubai stop

Operator details checked : Air Arabia’s English-language shuttle page lists Sharjah International Airport as the pickup, City Centre Al Shindagha as the Dubai drop-off, 08:00 departure and 09:00 arrival, and a free (AED 0) fare for this direction. It says to book at an Air Arabia sales shop at SHJ or City Centre Al Shindagha. It does not state that walk-up boarding or an online reservation is available for this route. Ask the sales shop to confirm your place, exact airport boarding point and whether the service is available to you.

Air Arabia’s language versions do not show the same number of departures. Treat the English page’s 08:00 listing as a checked snapshot, not a guaranteed daily schedule, and get the current departure in your booking confirmation.

There is an important information mismatch: Sharjah Airport’s public-transport information has described a different Dubai drop-off at Al Ghurair Centre. For this specific Air Arabia service, follow your current booking confirmation or the operator’s live instructions. Do not head to Al Ghurair or Al Shindagha solely because an old guide names it. Neither stop is Dubai Marina.

If the confirmed drop-off is City Centre Al Shindagha, check the short ground route to Al Ghubaiba metro station on the RTA’s Al Ghubaiba area map. From the Green Line, change at BurJuman to the Red Line toward Marina. Get off at Sobha Realty or DMCC according to your hotel address, then use a tram, short taxi or manageable walk. The RTA metro and tram map shows these stations and connections.

Check the last usable metro connection for your travel day. If rail is closed, price a taxi from Al Shindagha to your hotel before deciding whether the coach saves enough.

Public buses: a cheaper route with more changes

Muwasalat’s route 99 runs from Sharjah Airport Terminal to Al Jubail Terminal; its current page shows AED 9 cash or AED 7 with Sayer for that first leg. At Al Jubail, take the Dubai RTA’s E306 toward Al Ghubaiba Bus Station, then the X91 toward the DMCC Metro bus stop, if both are running. This is the three-bus path behind the table’s 2-hour-39-minute route-planner estimate. Check each service on the RTA timetable on your travel day.

  1. Board route 99 at SHJ for Al Jubail.
  2. Change at Al Jubail to E306 for Al Ghubaiba.
  3. At Al Ghubaiba, choose X91 for the DMCC area or take the Green Line to BurJuman and the Red Line to Sobha Realty or DMCC. The metro alternative has a different fare and journey time from the bus-only table row.
  4. Finish at your hotel on foot or by local taxi, depending on its entrance.

Do not combine a Sharjah local-bus ticket and a Dubai metro fare into a single assumed ticket. The networks are run by different authorities; confirm payment separately for each leg. Dubai’s nol guidance explains how its card works for metro, buses and tram. If you have no nol card, buy or top one up at a Dubai transport station before entering the metro.

The route 99 page shows that waiting intervals vary by time and day; the table’s journey estimate may therefore be too short for your particular arrival. Check that your final Dubai connection is operating before leaving SHJ.

From a Dubai stop to the right part of Marina

The RTA’s station map places Sobha Realty and DMCC on the Red Line, with tram connections for the wider Marina area. Pick the station closest to your hotel’s actual entrance.

Sobha Realty and DMCC

There is no universal best Marina station: use Sobha Realty or DMCC according to the walking route, and add a short taxi when that walk is impractical.

Marina tram, JBR and The Walk

For some Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) and waterfront hotels, the tram shortens the walk. Check its service times and the distance from the tram stop to your door.

Bluewaters Island, although often described alongside Marina and JBR, needs its own address check. It is not the name of a Red Line station. If you are carrying bags there, a direct car can be much simpler than trying to finish a rail journey on foot. The same principle applies to a hotel on the Palm side of the Marina: verify the exact entrance rather than picking a station from a neighbourhood label.

What changes the real arrival time and fare?

The comparison starts at boarding because arrival formalities and the wait for the next departure depend on your flight. For a hotel-door estimate, add time until the first vehicle + the table’s journey time + any extra hotel approach. The airport taxi reaches your door in one leg; the coach and bus estimates end at a Marina station or stop before the final walk or taxi. The coach’s AED 0 fare is therefore only one part of its total cost.

Practical check: Compare an actual taxi quote with the coach or bus fare plus any Dubai taxi you will need. Recheck the route on your travel day because operator fares, waiting intervals, congestion and the last usable train can change.

Arrival checklist before you leave the airport

  • Confirm that your arrival airport is SHJ, not DXB or DWC.
  • Save the hotel’s entrance pin and reception number.
  • For the coach, confirm the sales-shop booking, current departure and Dubai stop; for buses, check all three services and payment methods.
  • For a car, confirm vehicle size, child seat or access needs, fare terms and meeting point.
  • Keep a Dubai taxi option if your final connection is unavailable.

Questions travellers ask before booking

Is there a direct metro from Sharjah Airport to Dubai Marina?

No. SHJ has no Dubai Metro station. First reach Dubai by road, then use the metro if it is running and suits your hotel location.

Can I use the Air Arabia coach without arranging a place?

Do not assume so. Air Arabia tells travellers to book through its sales shop for the SHJ–Al Shindagha shuttle. Check eligibility, availability and the current stop with the operator.

What if I miss the last metro after reaching Dubai?

Use an official taxi or a licensed booked car from the Dubai drop-off to your hotel. Include that possible fare when comparing a coach or bus with a direct airport taxi.

Which stop is best for a hotel at JBR?

It depends on the hotel entrance. DMCC or Sobha Realty plus a tram or short taxi may work, but a late arrival or heavy bags can make a direct car easier.

Can I get a taxi from Sharjah Airport overnight?

Sharjah Airport says its official taxi service operates around the clock. Confirm the intercity trip, vehicle size and payment with the dispatcher at the arrivals rank.
