Hatta is a mountain destination within Dubai, but its express bus starts in the city, not at Dubai International Airport. Plan the airport connection, the ride to Hatta and the final trip to your hotel or attraction together.
Compare the three routes
The practical question is not just “How do I get to Hatta?” It is “How do I get from my arrival terminal to the right stop, then to the hotel, dam or activity I actually booked?” A bus ticket to Hatta town does not deliver you to Hatta Dam or a mountain lodge. Below, hamintour travel guides compares whole journeys, explains the Terminal 2 exception, and shows when a direct car becomes worthwhile.
Dubai Airport to Hatta: which option suits your trip?
| Option | Cost to plan for | Time and changes | Where you finish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metro or taxi + H02 express bus | H02: about US$6.81 per person. Add the Metro fare, normally about US$0.82–2.32 depending on ticket and zones, or a separately metered taxi to Dubai Mall. Add any Hatta local ride. | H02 itself about 90 minutes; allow roughly 2½–4 hours airport to Hatta bus station for reaching its Dubai stop and waiting for a departure. At least one change, often a final local ride. | Hatta Main Bus Station; not automatically your hotel, dam or Wadi Hub. |
| Licensed airport taxi | Metered from an airport flagfall of roughly US$5.45 for a standard taxi; distance, waiting and any applicable charges add to it. Obtain a live estimate for the exact address. | Approximately 90 minutes by road in normal conditions, longer with traffic or a remote destination. No vehicle change. | Your specified hotel or attraction entrance. |
| Airport rental car | Live daily quote + fuel + any tolls, parking or extras. Insurance excess, deposit, mileage and return-location charges vary by contract. | Approximately 90 minutes’ driving in ordinary conditions, plus pickup and paperwork. No route change, but you drive. | Your accommodation and subsequent Hatta stops, where vehicle access is allowed. |
The bus total is a planning range, not a published DXB-to-Hatta timetable. It combines the official H02 running time with an airport connection, station access and a possible wait; a missed bus can extend it. The Metro fare range comes from RTA’s regular Nol fares and depends on zones and ticket type. H02’s local fare is converted at the dirham’s US-dollar peg. Pay in the local currency; these dollar equivalents are for comparison only. Taxi and rental-car costs are deliberately left as a meter or live quote because a fixed figure for every Hatta hotel would be misleading.

First, identify your DXB terminal and final Hatta address
Terminals 1 and 3: Dubai Airports confirms that the Metro Red Line serves both terminals. This makes the bus combination practical when the Metro is running and you can manage your bags. Buy or top up a Nol card or other accepted RTA ticket before entering; check the last train on the day of your arrival. The official airport page publishes operating hours, but service windows can change for holidays and maintenance.
Terminal 2: there is no Red Line station at the terminal. Take an official taxi or a current RTA bus connection to an appropriate Metro station or directly to Dubai Mall Bus Station; price that first leg before judging the bus option cheap. With several passengers or a late flight, a taxi all the way to Hatta may be simpler than buying a taxi ride merely to reach the H02. If you use a ride app, follow its marked pickup instructions, which may differ from the official taxi rank.
Do not confuse DXB with DWC. This guide starts at Dubai International Airport, code DXB. Al Maktoum International Airport, code DWC, has a different first leg. Also save your exact Hatta pin: Hatta Main Bus Station, Hatta Dam, Hatta Wadi Hub, a heritage-area stay and a mountain resort are distinct destinations. Confirm the accommodation’s reception entrance and whether it offers pickup from the station.
If you need an accessible vehicle, child seat or room for sports equipment, arrange that before landing. An ordinary Metro journey may have practical baggage limits, and an ordinary taxi may lack the equipment you need. Dubai Airports’ transport accessibility information and your chosen operator can confirm the correct pickup.
Public transport: how to use the H02 Hatta Express
- Leave your terminal and reach the city. From Terminal 1 or 3, follow the Metro signs and take the Red Line toward the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall area. From Terminal 2, plan a taxi or a verified bus-to-Metro connection. Check RTA’s journey planner or S’hail for the route from your actual terminal to Dubai Mall Bus Station; the Metro station and the bus boarding point are not the same platform.
- Find the H02 boarding point. Visit Hatta identifies the origin as Dubai Mall Bus Station. Do not wait at an airport bus stand or assume every Dubai Mall bus stop is the express departure bay. Follow the live RTA stop pin and platform information, especially if you are arriving with luggage or during mall peak hours.
- Check a live H02 departure before committing. RTA’s Hatta Express announcement describes a roughly two-hour service interval, while Visit Hatta gives around 90 minutes’ riding time. A departure you just miss can add a long wait. Verify the current time and direction in S’hail; neither the airplane landing time nor the published riding time includes immigration, Metro access and that wait.
- Pay with Nol and ride to Hatta Main Bus Station. Visit Hatta’s official visitor page lists the H02 fare at approximately US$6.81 per rider, charged in local currency. Ensure your card has enough balance before boarding. Save the reverse departure for the trip back.
- Complete the last leg. Check a local Hatta bus, licensed taxi or hotel pickup to your specific address. Ask your accommodation for a station pickup if it is outside town. Do not buy only a Dubai-to-Hatta fare and assume it covers access to the dam or your lodge.
There is another RTA route, E16 between Union Bus Station and Hatta Bus Station. This can make sense if a live planner sends you through Union rather than Downtown Dubai. RTA’s current E16 timetable shows it as a multi-stop service; it is not the H02 express. RTA moved its Dubai terminus to Union Bus Station, so older instructions sending you to Al Sabkha are unreliable. Compare the whole connection and fare in S’hail rather than assuming E16 is automatically faster or cheaper from DXB.

Taxi or booked transfer: the direct, simple route
At any DXB terminal, follow the airport’s Taxi / Car Service signs to the licensed rank. Tell the driver the exact hotel or activity entrance, not only “Hatta.” Visit Hatta describes DXB to Hatta as approximately 90 minutes by road. That is a useful driving benchmark, not a promise for arrivals during heavy traffic, a farther-out lodge or a stop en route.
RTA’s published airport taxi tariff starts at about US$5.45 for a regular airport taxi, or about US$6.81 for a larger airport vehicle, then adds distance and waiting; applicable tolls or other listed charges can add to the meter. The start fare is not the Hatta fare. A precise total depends on your destination, route, time in traffic and vehicle. Request a current estimate in an approved app or at the airport and keep the meter receipt.
A private transfer may quote one price in advance. Compare it with a metered taxi on the same Hatta address. Confirm waiting after delayed arrival, flight tracking, meet-and-greet location, child seats, wheelchair support if required, luggage capacity, cancellation terms and whether the driver will stop at a remote accommodation entrance. For a group, divide the full vehicle quote by the number of lawful seats you will actually use. Do not compare a per-person bus fare to a taxi’s airport flagfall alone.
A return taxi can be convenient but should not be assumed instantly available at a quiet dam viewpoint or remote camp. Pre-book a pickup, obtain your hotel’s help or arrange the vehicle before you leave the town centre. Keep mobile data and the exact pickup pin available.

Rental car: best for several Hatta stops, if the terms fit
Dubai Airports lists car-hire desks at Terminals 1, 2 and 3 for at least one operator; availability, opening times and return desks depend on the company and booking. Reserve for the correct terminal and check whether the car is collected at arrivals or reached by a shuttle. A very late arrival can make paperwork or an off-site pickup more inconvenient than the road journey itself.
Before paying, ask the rental company to confirm which driving licence it accepts for your nationality and visitor status, whether an International Driving Permit is required alongside your home licence, the minimum age, payment-card and deposit rules, and the name of every authorised driver. The UAE Government’s visitor-driving guidance notes that some visitors may drive with their national licences; that does not mean every foreign licence is accepted on identical terms. If the desk rejects your documents, your pre-paid itinerary may fail.
Compare the total price: rental days, fuel, tolls, insurance cover and excess, security deposit, mileage allowance, additional drivers, child seat, late pickup or return, and any fee for returning at a different airport or terminal. Check the stated fuel policy and take pickup and return photos of the car. A deposit is money held temporarily, not the same as the hire price.
For the road, use a current navigation route to your exact Hatta address. Visit Hatta describes the E102 Sharjah–Kalba route as normally the quickest road access from Dubai, but live traffic and your chosen stop may change the best approach. Stay on the UAE route recommended for your destination; do not accept a navigation detour across an international border without deliberately checking entry, vehicle and insurance requirements. Normal rental agreements may exclude off-road driving. Park only where the hotel or attraction permits and do not treat a rugged mountain track as an ordinary paved approach.
A car is often worthwhile if your trip includes Hatta Dam, Hatta Wadi Hub, a heritage visit and a resort in one stay. For a single overnight at a hotel offering station pickup, the extra hire day, fuel and deposit may bring little benefit. Compare your exact itinerary rather than deciding from the airport-to-town drive alone.

After the Hatta bus station: hotels, dam and activities
Hatta town and heritage-area accommodation
If your stay is in the town itself, check the walking route from Hatta Main Bus Station to the exact reception entrance. A short map distance can still be uncomfortable with luggage, heat or an awkward crossing. Ask the hotel whether it collects guests at the station, and obtain a local taxi quote if it does not. The station is a useful transport hub; it is not a universal hotel drop-off.
Hatta Dam and kayaking
The dam needs a separate onward leg. Check the dam’s visitor access, your activity operator’s exact meeting point and whether a local bus stops close enough for the remaining walk. If renting a car, navigate to the designated visitor parking rather than an arbitrary map pin on the water. Water activities can have separate operating hours, weather conditions and tickets; a bus arrival in Hatta does not guarantee the last activity slot.
Hatta Wadi Hub and mountain stays
Wadi Hub activities and accommodation can be farther from the main station. Use the official Wadi Hub information for current openings, then confirm the pickup or drop-off position with the operator. Some accommodation check-ins are at a reception point that differs from a tent or cabin pin. Transport after dark needs extra thought: a scheduled local sightseeing bus may not run when you finish an evening activity.
Visit Hatta currently names a local H204 hop-on/hop-off service from the main bus station to popular sights. An older RTA announcement uses H04 for a Hatta tourist loop. The service number and stop pattern should therefore be checked in RTA S’hail on the travel day, rather than assuming an old route label or that it reaches your particular hotel. Hotel pickup and local taxi remain alternatives.

Plan the journey back before leaving Dubai
For the return bus, first secure transport from your Hatta hotel or attraction to Hatta Main Bus Station. Then verify the H02 in the Dubai-bound direction, the connection from Dubai Mall Bus Station to your DXB terminal, and that the Metro will still be running when you reach the city. If your flight departs early, a bus itinerary may mean leaving Hatta the previous evening. Do not use the outbound timetable to infer the reverse one.
For a rental car, check the exact airport return site and its opening or key-drop rules, then add time for fuel, inspection and a possible shuttle from the return lot to your terminal. For a taxi or transfer, confirm pickup from the correct Hatta reception or attraction entrance, allow road-traffic margin, and add the airport’s check-in and security requirements. In every case, calculate backward from your airline’s required airport arrival time, not merely from departure time.
A same-day Hatta visit from DXB is possible in theory but can leave little time once immigration, baggage, the city connection and the return are included. If Hatta is a stopover activity, check that you are legally able to enter the UAE and that your luggage can be stored or carried. A longer overnight stay gives the bus option much more room for delays and activity schedules.

A practical choice for different travellers
Solo traveller, central stay, daylight arrival: check H02 first. The long-distance fare is known, the airport Metro is convenient from T1 or T3, and a town-centre stay may need only a small final ride. Confirm the H02 departure before leaving the terminal.
Family with luggage or a late Terminal 2 arrival: price a direct licensed taxi and a booked transfer. The per-vehicle cost may compare better than separate bus fares plus a taxi to the Dubai boarding point and another taxi in Hatta. Request child seats and enough baggage room explicitly.
Several sights or a remote mountain property: a rental car can save repeated local pickups if the rental terms are suitable. A taxi to the hotel plus a local tour may be more comfortable if you do not want to drive. Include the whole stay, not only the first 90 minutes.

Dubai Airport to Hatta: common questions
Is there a direct bus from DXB to Hatta?
The published H02 express begins at Dubai Mall Bus Station, not at a DXB terminal. Reach that stop from your airport terminal, then change to H02. E16 is another Hatta bus from Union Bus Station, subject to its live timetable.
Where does H02 stop in Hatta?
At Hatta Main Bus Station. Arrange a separate ride or verified local bus to Hatta Dam, Wadi Hub or a hotel that is not walkable.
How much does the Hatta Express cost?
Visit Hatta lists a local fare equivalent to about US$6.81 per person, payable with Nol. Add the cost of reaching Dubai Mall Bus Station and any final Hatta transfer.
How long does the trip take?
H02’s Dubai Mall to Hatta ride is around 90 minutes. A sensible airport-to-Hatta-bus-station planning allowance is roughly 2½–4 hours after you exit arrivals, depending on your terminal, first leg and wait. A direct drive is approximately 90 minutes under ordinary conditions.
Can I use the Metro from Terminal 2?
Not directly. DXB’s Red Line stations are at Terminals 1 and 3. From Terminal 2, first take a taxi or a verified public connection to a suitable Metro station or the bus departure point.
Is Hatta Dam within walking distance of the H02 terminus?
Do not assume so, especially with bags or in hot weather. Put the dam’s visitor entrance into a map and check a current local bus, taxi or hotel/attraction transfer from Hatta Main Bus Station.
Is the local tourist bus H04 or H204?
Visit Hatta currently calls it H204, while an older RTA announcement called a Hatta tourist loop H04. Check the current route and stops in RTA S’hail on your travel date; do not depend on a historical route number.
What is a reliable taxi fare to Hatta?
There is no single fare for all Hatta addresses. Official airport taxis are metered, with a start charge and added distance, waiting and any applicable fees. Request an estimate to your specific entrance before choosing.
Can a tourist rent a car at DXB and drive to Hatta?
Car rental is available at DXB. Eligibility depends on the visitor’s licence, nationality, possible International Driving Permit, age, payment card and the rental company’s rules. Verify those details before prepaying, and remain on permitted paved roads.
Does the Dubai–Hatta journey require an Oman visa?
Hatta is in Dubai, UAE. Choose a route that stays within the UAE. If your navigation proposes crossing an international border, do not follow it without separately checking entry and rental-car conditions.
What should I do for an early flight back from DXB?
Check the first feasible Hatta-to-Dubai bus and the onward airport connection. If it cannot deliver you with enough airline check-in time, return to Dubai the previous evening or arrange a direct car.
