Orthopedic Hospitals and Surgeons in Iran: A Careful Patient Comparison
Choosing where to have a joint replacement, ligament reconstruction or complex fracture procedure takes more than a list of names. Compare ten facilities and ten direct Iranian Medical Council records, then check the exact surgeon, implant, rehabilitation plan and written cost for your own diagnosis.
Eight options are in Tehran and two in Mashhad. The companion Orthopedic Surgery in Iran guide covers the broader treatment and travel journey.

Editorial approach. This informational comparison draws on direct facility pages, professional-registration records, the Hamintour team’s coordination experience and patient feedback where available. It is not a paid advertorial, an audited league table or a promise of outcome. A published service may not be available at every branch or on your chosen date.
Hamintour is a medical-travel coordination platform, not a hospital, clinic or medical team. We do not diagnose, prescribe or operate. An open fracture, new paralysis, suspected spinal cord compression, a hot swollen joint with fever or another urgent problem needs prompt local assessment rather than a travel booking.
Start with the condition, then find the right subspecialty
Hip or knee arthritis
Ask a joint-replacement surgeon to review weight-bearing radiographs, symptoms, previous treatments, general health and rehabilitation needs. A total replacement, partial replacement or continued nonsurgical treatment are not interchangeable. The NHS patient guide explains that surgery is usually considered when pain and stiffness continue despite other treatment and affect daily life.
Sports injury and ligament reconstruction
An ACL injury needs a clinical examination and imaging interpreted in context. Surgery may be discussed for persistent instability or a particular activity goal; rehabilitation is central whether or not an operation occurs. Request the graft choice, any meniscus procedure, return-to-activity criteria and a physiotherapy plan you can continue at home.
Fracture, revision and bone infection
Complex fracture fixation, a painful old implant, nonunion or infection may need a different team and more tests. A revision implant and its components can change the quoted cost substantially. Ask how infection will be investigated, whether microbiology or a staged operation is possible, and which hospital handles a complication.
Spine, hand and pediatric care
Spine symptoms may require a spine surgeon from orthopedics or neurosurgery; hand and childhood conditions have separate expertise. New weakness, numbness in the saddle area or bladder dysfunction can be urgent. Do not infer that a generic orthopedic clinic has the exact subspecialist, equipment or inpatient service you need.
For the overall pathway, see our Orthopedic Surgery in Iran landing page. If weight management affects a joint-replacement plan, our weight-loss treatment guide helps frame questions, but the orthopedic team should decide the right sequence for your case.
How we assess a listing
We ask whether the facility publishes the relevant service, whether the doctor has a direct professional record, and whether the hospital can name the actual operating surgeon and site. The Iran Medical Council profile identifies the registrant and listed training; it does not publish a universal surgical-outcome score, prove current hospital privileges or establish that a procedure is suitable for you.
A useful written proposal includes the operation name, side, implant brand and model when known, surgeon and assistant, anesthesia, imaging, stay, physiotherapy, wound review and a plan if recovery is delayed. Ask for risks adjusted to your age, health, prior surgery and infection history. If a center quotes a success percentage, ask for its definition, number of comparable cases, complication types, follow-up duration and independent verification.
Maps search links are excluded: a result might point to a different branch or entrance. Obtain the precise address from the hospital and match it to your appointment letter before arranging transport.
Ten orthopedic facilities to research
The order below is for navigation, not a ranking. Eight are in Tehran, which gives international patients several public and private pathways to compare. The two Mashhad listings add a regional comparison. A facility page is a starting point, not proof of a particular surgeon’s availability.
1. Shafa Yahyaian Orthopedic Hospital
City: Tehran
Type: Orthopedic teaching and referral hospital
Public USD quote for your case: No case-specific quote verified
A dedicated orthopedic hospital affiliated with Iran University of Medical Sciences. Ask its international unit for the relevant subspecialty, operating surgeon and rehabilitation pathway.

Confirm the exact branch, operating surgeon, implant and rehabilitation arrangements.
2. Akhtar Hospital
City: Tehran
Type: University orthopedic hospital
Public USD quote for your case: No case-specific quote verified
A Shahid Beheshti University facility with orthopedic care and an international-patient route. Ask which clinic can assess the specific problem and whether the needed implant is available.
Official facility site · Relevant official service page
Confirm the exact branch, operating surgeon, implant and rehabilitation arrangements.
3. Parsa Hospital
City: Tehran

Official facility site · Relevant official service page
Confirm the exact branch, operating surgeon, implant and rehabilitation arrangements.
6. Ebnesina Hospital
City: Tehran
Type: General hospital with orthopedic surgery clinic
Public USD quote for your case: No case-specific quote verified
Its English department page describes joint replacement, fractures, sports injuries, hand and spine services. Verify the named operating surgeon rather than relying on a general department description.
Official facility site · Relevant official service page
Confirm the exact branch, operating surgeon, implant and rehabilitation arrangements.
7. Atieh Hospital
City: Tehran
Type: General hospital
Public USD quote for your case: No case-specific quote verified
Its official doctor list is a starting point for orthopedic consultation. Confirm the current surgeon, inpatient facility and postoperative rehabilitation in the same quote.
Official facility site · Relevant official service page
Confirm the exact branch, operating surgeon, implant and rehabilitation arrangements.
8. Behin Orthopedic Clinic
City: Tehran
Type: Outpatient orthopedic and rehabilitation clinic
Public USD quote for your case: No case-specific quote verified
A possible assessment or rehabilitation option. We have not verified an inpatient operating facility at this clinic; a surgical proposal needs a separately named hospital.
Official facility site · Relevant official service page
Confirm the exact branch, operating surgeon, implant and rehabilitation arrangements.
9. Mehr Hospital
City: Mashhad
Type: General hospital with published USD examples
Public USD quote for your case: Approximate procedure ranges only
Its own English page publishes approximate orthopedic price ranges. Those are facility examples, not Tehran averages or binding quotes.
Official facility site · Relevant official service page
Confirm the exact branch, operating surgeon, implant and rehabilitation arrangements.
10. Bent Al Hoda Hospital
City: Mashhad
Type: General hospital with orthopedic service
Public USD quote for your case: No case-specific quote verified
The hospital publishes orthopedic services and broader hospital information. Ask which clinician and implant can be offered to an international patient.

Ten doctors with direct Iranian Medical Council records
These are verifiable registration entries, not a list of the ten best outcomes. Some English spellings are approximate transliterations of Persian names; use the registration number to avoid confusing people with similar names. A hospital listing indicates a published relationship, but may not reflect the doctor’s current schedule or operative privileges.
| Physician | Published field or hospital detail | Medical Council number and direct profile | Facility evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dr Afshin Afridoun | Orthopedic surgery | 39980 | Parsa Hospital source |
| Dr Ramin Talebian Khorasani | Orthopedic surgery; hospital shortens the name | 61887 | Parsa Hospital source |
| Dr Shahram Shahim | Orthopedic surgery | 78303 | Parsa Hospital source |
| Dr Mohammad-Hossein Shabanpour Haghighi | Orthopedic surgery; current practice location requires confirmation | 118886 | Parsa Hospital source |
| Dr Hirash Heydari | Orthopedic surgery | 103156 | Parsa Hospital source |
| Dr Khashayar Arfaei | Orthopedic surgery | 23234 | Asia Hospital source |
| Dr Pouria Rooyan | Orthopedic surgery; spine fellowship published by hospital | 128261 | Ebnesina Hospital source |
| Dr Pouyan Jalalpour | Orthopedic surgery | 157342 | Ebnesina Hospital source |
| Dr Mohammad Ayati Firoozabadi | Orthopedic surgery; knee fellowship published by hospital | 105016 | Ebnesina Hospital source |
| Dr Pouya Nozarnejad | Orthopedic surgery | 91923 | Asia Hospital source |
Match the clinician’s field to your specific condition. For a revision, fracture nonunion, spine disorder or suspected infection, ask who can provide a second opinion and whether a multidisciplinary team is needed. The surgeon should state whether they will personally perform the operation and who will supervise follow-up.
Published orthopedic prices in US dollars
Mehr Hospital in Mashhad publishes approximate USD ranges for several operations. These are one hospital’s examples, not a Tehran market median, quotations observed by Hamintour, or guaranteed prices for all international patients. Its same page has an apparently reversed carpal-tunnel range, which we have excluded. Request a written quote after review of your films and medical history.
| Operation listed by Mehr Hospital | Approximate USD range | Details to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| ACL repair or reconstruction | $1,500–$3,800 | Graft, fixation devices, meniscus work and physiotherapy. |
| Total knee replacement, one side | $2,500–$4,500 | Prosthesis model, bone loss, inpatient stay and rehabilitation. |
| Total hip replacement, one side | $2,500–$4,500 | Implant components, fixation and mobility support. |
| Knee arthroscopy | $2,000–$3,500 | Diagnostic scope versus repair and disposable equipment. |
| Shoulder joint replacement | $2,500–$4,500 | Implant design, primary versus revision surgery, rehabilitation. |
Check the hospital’s original orthopedic price page. If the case is more complex than a standard primary procedure, the actual operation, implant or stay can differ. The surgeon and facility must issue your final estimate. We have not substituted resident prices in tomans for the international-patient budget.
One-sided knee replacement: cross-country examples
The following figures have different inclusions and are not matched like-for-like quotes. To keep a USD display, the UK published £20,995 starting price is converted at an illustrative rate of roughly $1.33 per pound; the dollar figure will move with exchange rates. Price alone does not determine the safest choice.
| Country and published example | Approximate USD | Scope warning |
|---|---|---|
| Iran · Mehr Hospital, Mashhad | $2,500–$4,500 | Approximate one-sided total knee replacement range; inclusions require confirmation. |
| Turkey · Acıbadem International country estimate | $8,500–$15,000 | Published range, not a quote for the same implant or patient. |
| UK · Cromwell Hospital fixed-price package | About $27,900 | Converted from a starting price of £20,995; package terms apply. |
| US · MDsave inpatient example in Arizona | $27,834 | One marketplace location and purchase pathway; not a national average. |
Source names for these approximate country examples: Mehr Hospital orthopedic price list; Acıbadem International knee-replacement hospital guide; Cromwell Hospital knee-replacement self-pay page; MDsave inpatient knee-replacement price in Tempe, Arizona. Different implant models, care packages, currencies and follow-up make direct savings claims unreliable. Ask each provider for an itemized case-specific offer.
Ask for a comparable written quote
After reading the cost examples, share the diagnosis, recent radiographs or MRI, previous surgery and current medicines. We can help request a provider review and organize the items in each response. The form is not a medical consultation.

Questions that change the decision
| Question | What a useful answer includes | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Is surgery necessary now? | Diagnosis, symptoms, imaging, alternatives and realistic benefit. | An operation offered without review of films or previous treatment. |
| Who will operate? | Named surgeon, qualification, facility and contingency team. | A well-known name used without confirming who will perform the procedure. |
| Which implant or graft? | Brand, model, size-selection process, availability and long-term support. | A price that assumes a device but does not identify it. |
| How will pain and mobility be assessed? | Baseline measures and scheduled checks after treatment. | A “success rate” with no definition or follow-up period. |
| What happens after discharge? | Physiotherapy plan, wound review, DVT prevention and red flags. | A return flight booked before the clinical team assesses fitness to travel. |
| Who pays for a complication? | Written policy on extra days, infection treatment, readmission or revision. | A low headline amount without exclusions. |
Safety and outcomes: ask for meaningful measures
Potential harms include infection, blood clots, nerve injury, stiffness, persistent pain, implant problems and the need for another procedure. Risks depend on the operation and the patient’s health. The NHS complication guide explains that clot and other complication risks vary by individual. Ask your own surgeon what preventive plan fits you, particularly if you have a prior clot, diabetes or previous joint infection.
A measurable result is more useful than a promotional percentage. Discuss a preoperative pain and function score, the mobility goal, alignment or fixation on imaging when applicable, infection and readmission definitions, and the time point at which outcomes will be checked. If a center supplies its own results, ask whether they describe the same procedure and patient risk group as yours.
For joint replacement, NHS recovery guidance makes clear that recovery takes months rather than ending at hospital discharge. Plan physiotherapy at home, not only a few sessions during travel. If your goal is return to sport after ligament reconstruction, agree on functional clearance criteria instead of a calendar-only promise.
From records to rehabilitation at home
Before you book: Request copies of radiographs, CT or MRI images and reports, medical history, allergies, medicine list and prior operation notes. A specialist may repeat imaging or alter the plan after examination. Ask your home clinician whether a planned international journey is reasonable and who can provide follow-up. Insurance must be checked for overseas elective surgery, complications and evacuation.
In Iran: Confirm the named surgeon and hospital branch during the in-person visit. The team should explain anesthesia, the implant or graft, transfusion possibilities, mobility aids and warning signs. A companion can help with practical needs, but cannot replace qualified clinical care. Reserve an accessible room and transport if stairs or long walks will be difficult.
After treatment: Obtain operative records, the implant sticker or model details, images if relevant, a medication and clot-prevention plan, wound-care advice and an English or translated summary for your clinician at home. Schedule physiotherapy and a check of mobility, swelling, pain and wound healing. The CDC medical-tourism guidance notes that surgery and long-distance travel can both increase blood-clot risk. The treating clinician should decide when flying is safe; a generic package duration is not personal clearance.
Confirm entry requirements through the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and check your government’s current security advice. Visa, flight, insurance and local conditions can change.
Which images help an orthopedic decision?
Cosmetic before-and-after portraits are a poor measure of whether a knee replacement works or a fracture heals. For these conditions, ask the treating team to explain the relevant imaging, exam and function measures: weight-bearing joint films, alignment, implant position, union of a fracture, walking distance, pain and range of motion. Even an X-ray of another patient cannot predict your outcome. We therefore do not fill this comparison with unrelated patient photographs. The single hero image is decorative.
What Hamintour Medical Tourism can do
Hamintour helps international patients identify possible providers, send medical records for an initial specialist review, coordinate appointments and compare written plans. We can assist with flights if requested, accommodation suited to limited mobility, airport pickup, transfers to the hospital and rehabilitation center, an interpreter or patient companion when needed, and practical support during the stay. After you return, we can help relay questions or follow-up reports to the treating team.
We are a coordination platform. The licensed doctor and facility decide diagnosis, treatment, medicines and discharge. Ask Hamintour to distinguish hospital charges from our coordination fee and optional travel items. Compare our offer with another offer covering the same surgeon, hospital branch, implant, stay and rehabilitation. If a rival quote appears lower, we can help identify what differs; we do not promise a universal lowest price.
Read the hamintour Medical Tourism home, our Orthopedic Surgery in Iran guide, the medical magazine and the medical content disclaimer. You may ask an initial question by WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
Are these the ten best orthopedic hospitals in Iran?
No. This is a sourced comparison of ten institutions, not an audited ranking of outcomes. Choose the subspecialty, named surgeon and rehabilitation pathway that fit your condition.
Can I have a knee replacement after a short online consultation?
The provider can review records remotely, but the surgeon still needs an examination and may change the plan after updated imaging or tests. Do not treat an early quote as surgical clearance.
Does a lower price mean the same implant and aftercare?
Not necessarily. Compare the device model, surgical team, stay, medicines, physiotherapy and treatment of complications in each written offer.
How quickly can I fly after joint replacement?
The treating surgeon must make an individual assessment. Surgery and long flights increase clot concerns, and the safe timing depends on recovery, mobility and other health factors.
Is physiotherapy included in a hospital price?
The published price examples do not establish a full rehabilitation package. Ask what sessions are included in Iran and arrange continued treatment at home.
Can Hamintour choose the operation for me?
No. Hamintour coordinates communication and travel. A licensed doctor and facility make clinical decisions after assessment and informed consent.
What records should I take home?
Request the operative report, implant details, imaging and laboratory results, prescriptions, physiotherapy plan, complication instructions and follow-up contact.
Three practical starting options
These are suggested research routes, not a top-three outcome ranking:
- Shafa Yahyaian, Tehran: a university orthopedic hospital worth contacting for a subspecialty referral, particularly when the case is complex. Confirm international intake and the surgeon.
- Ebnesina Hospital, Tehran: its English orthopedic surgery page details a wide service range. Ask which named surgeon and unit would treat your specific condition.
- Parsa Hospital, Tehran: its orthopedics department publishes clinicians and related services. Request an itemized implant and rehabilitation plan.
If your priorities are cost transparency and a regional option, also compare Mehr Hospital’s approximate USD examples with a new written quote.
Evidence and limits
The institution and Medical Council sources sit beside the listings. Clinical and travel guidance comes from NHS and CDC materials. Country prices have different inclusions and do not constitute a comparable national market survey. Availability, professional registration, implant sourcing, visa rules and security advice should be rechecked before payment. This page gives general information, not a personal diagnosis or surgical recommendation.
