Eye Hospitals and Ophthalmologists in Iran: A Practical Comparison

An eye treatment decision starts with a diagnosis for each eye, not a hospital slogan. This guide brings ten center websites and ten direct physician-registration records together with the questions that reveal whether a service, surgeon, price and follow-up plan fit your case.

It covers laser vision correction, cataract, glaucoma, retinal disease, cornea and eyelid pathways. If you already know the procedure you need, use the comparison; if you are still exploring treatment options, read the broader Eye Treatment in Iran guide.

Illustrative scene, not a patient result or evidence of any listed hospital’s performance.

How this comparison was prepared. We drew on the experience of the hamintour Medical Tourism team and patient feedback, then checked original provider pages, individual Iranian Medical Council records and ophthalmology guidance. This is an informational comparison, not a paid advertorial or an independently audited ranking of outcomes. A center’s website demonstrates what it publishes; it cannot prove that a particular specialist will be available or that a procedure is appropriate for you.

hamintour is a medical-tourism coordination platform. We are not an eye hospital or clinical team, and we do not diagnose, prescribe drops, select lenses or perform surgery. Final treatment decisions are made by the treating licensed ophthalmologist and facility after examination and informed consent. Sudden loss of vision, new flashes with a curtain over the field of view, severe eye pain or an eye injury warrants urgent local assessment rather than travel planning; see the US National Eye Institute’s retinal-detachment guidance.

How to compare eye-care providers without guessing

First ask what is wrong with each eye. A person exploring LASIK needs corneal measurements and a discussion of dry eye and prescription stability. A patient with a cataract needs lens measurements and a review of the retina and optic nerve. A patient with glaucoma may need long-term pressure and visual-field monitoring; someone with retinal detachment may need immediate care near home. One excellent refractive surgeon is not automatically the right person for complex retinal surgery.

We concentrate on Tehran because the city has hospitals, university care and subspecialty services that can be compared within one trip. Two Noor-network clinics outside the main hospital are shown separately so that their services are not mistaken for those of the parent hospital. These are ten documented research options, not a top-ten outcome league. There is no common public dataset here that would allow reliable ranking by complication rate, final corrected vision or outcomes for people with your diagnosis.

For each option, request a named surgeon, the location where care will happen, the diagnostic work-up, the technique and device or lens proposed, an itemized USD quote, a review schedule, a way to reach the team for urgent problems and a written handover for your doctor at home. A directory rating or a photo of a machine cannot answer those questions. Check whether a hospital’s international-patient office can accept your nationality and medical records before buying a ticket.

A decision table worth sending to every provider

What to checkQuestion to askA useful answer includes
Diagnosis and suitabilityWhich condition is being treated in each eye, and what findings would make the proposed procedure unsuitable?Individual examination and an alternative if surgery is inappropriate.
SubspecialistWho will perform the procedure? Is their practice focused on cornea, retina, glaucoma, pediatric eyes or oculoplastics as needed?Full name, registration record, current role and visit plan.
FacilityWhich exact branch and operating room will be used?Address, after-hours contact and complication pathway.
PriceIs the fee per eye or both? Are lenses, scans, drops and early reviews included?USD itemization with exclusions and cancellation terms.
OutcomeWhich measure will show benefit or disease control?A relevant visual-acuity, pressure, field or retinal-imaging measure at a stated follow-up.
JourneyWhen may I fly or drive, and who will see me back home?Clinician-specific instructions, records and a handover plan.

Compare written responses for two or three suitable options. Keep urgency in view: repeated injections, unstable glaucoma or a retinal emergency may be better managed close to home than through a short medical trip. The value of Iran is the opportunity to compare established eye-care pathways and obtain a transparent international-patient quote; lower cost does not replace safety, continuity or clinical suitability.

Ten eye hospitals and clinics to investigate

The following are institutional profiles, not a quality ranking or claim of a Hamintour partnership. The original source is linked in each card. Contact the facility to confirm its current address, surgeon, branch and services. We omit map links where an exact, verified pin is unavailable.

What its own source supports: The clinic has its own site and is listed by the Noor network as a separate location.

Before booking: Will the consultation and any operation be at the same site?

Official institution site · Provider information

Noor Motahari and Noor Shahr-e Rey are separately listed branches of the Noor network, not independent hospital groups. A consultation in a clinic does not show where any operation will take place. If you need urgent retina or glaucoma care, ask about immediate access rather than a routine elective appointment.

Ten ophthalmologists with direct professional records

The Iranian Medical Council profile links allow you to check the listed professional registration. A provider page gives a separate view of a doctor’s published work location. A registration is not proof of an active appointment, an outcome rate or a match for your condition. The providers must identify the surgeon who will actually treat you. Most names below appear on Negah Hospital’s booking pages; that reflects source availability, not a claim that one hospital has the best doctors in Iran.

One profile in the Arabic comparison shows Saveh as the registered location while a Tehran provider page lists clinical work in Tehran. Locations can differ across systems. Confirm the current practice location, role and hospital privileges directly. For pediatric ophthalmology, orbital disease or another subspecialty not represented by these ten records, ask the chosen hospital for a clinician with that specific practice focus instead of treating this table as a complete directory.

USD prices: use a published fee as a question, not a promise

An unusually useful primary source is Noorafarin Eye Clinic’s international-patient tariff page. This clinic is in Mashhad and is not one of the ten Tehran-focused options above; the listed prices are its own publicly displayed USD fees, not a Tehran average or a Hamintour quote. The page explicitly specifies a unit for some procedures and is less clear for others. Do not assume every posted figure covers both eyes or all tests.

Procedure on Noorafarin’s IPD pagePublished USD figureUnit and limits to confirm
Trans-PRK$1,500Both eyes, as stated on provider page; confirm suitability and follow-up.
Cataract with monofocal IOL$1,100One eye; premium and toric lenses excluded.
Corneal transplant$2,500One eye; corneal tissue listed as included.
Vitrectomy$2,000One eye; complexity and additional procedures may change a personal quote.
PRK/LASIK listing$1,000Eye count is not explicit in the published snippet; ask the clinic before comparing.
Femto-LASIK listing$2,000Confirm whether one or both eyes, tests, drops and reviews are included.
Combined cataract and glaucoma surgery$1,500Confirm eye count, lens type and indications.

Figures are approximate planning references and may change. Direct source: Noorafarin Eye Clinic’s international-patient tariff. Ask hamintour Medical Tourism for an itemized quote from the actual treating center after a doctor reviews your case.

What a country comparison can and cannot show

For a like-condition starting point, compare laser vision correction for both eyes where the provider states the unit. The rows below are public examples, not national averages. Different techniques, screening, postoperative care and currency movements make headline numbers imperfect comparisons. The Iranian example overlaps the lower end of the selected Türkiye range and is lower than the selected UK and US examples; this does not establish that every Iranian clinic is the cheapest for every patient.

Provider and countryApproximate USD referenceImportant qualification
Noorafarin, Iran$1,500Published Trans-PRK, both eyes; clinic in Mashhad.
Acibadem, Türkiye$1,500–$2,800Published LASIK package range for both eyes; different method from Trans-PRK.
Moorfields Private, UKAbout $7,400£5,682 both-eye laser package, illustrated at £1 ≈ $1.30; not a live exchange quote.
Stanford Eye Laser Center, USAbout $6,500$3,250 per eye for listed LASIK/PRK methods; check current fee and eligibility.

Approximate figures only. Source names: Noorafarin Eye Clinic, Acibadem International, Moorfields Private and Stanford Health Care. Treatment methods and inclusions differ, and prices can change. Do not interpret this table as an equal-procedure clinical comparison or guaranteed savings.

Request written line items for consultation, scans, the right and left eyes, operating facility, exact lens if relevant, anesthesia, postoperative drops, early reviews, management of a complication, enhancement policy, accommodation, transport and interpreter. Ask what happens if examination in Iran changes the plan or makes you ineligible. A low surgery price is less persuasive if several follow-up visits are needed after you return home.

Request a preliminary review and an itemized quote

You have seen the public price examples and their limits. If you send your diagnosis and recent records, we can help ask suitable providers for a specific response and organize the practical side of a visit. Only the treating ophthalmologist can determine candidacy, final treatment and postoperative precautions.

Records to send and tests to expect

Describe each eye separately. Include your symptoms and when they began, current spectacle prescription, best corrected vision if known, previous procedures, eye drops and medicines, allergies, diabetes or immune disease, and a list of scans and examination dates. Send original reports or clearly legible copies through a channel the provider designates; avoid publishing medical records in social-media comments. Ask whether imaging done at home is accepted or must be repeated because of image quality, a changing condition or a new surgical measurement.

ProblemTypical assessment to discussDecision it informs
Laser vision correctionPrescription stability, corneal topography and thickness, tear film, ocular health.Whether any laser method is suitable at all; see the FDA LASIK checklist.
CataractLens and retina examination, measurements for an intraocular lens.Lens choice and whether another eye disease limits improvement; see the NEI cataract surgery guide.
GlaucomaEye pressure, optic nerve, visual field and OCT when indicated.Pressure target, treatment plan and long-term follow-up; see the NEI glaucoma treatment guide.
RetinaDilated retinal examination, OCT and further imaging as indicated.Urgency, whether injections, laser or surgery are appropriate and how many reviews are needed.

Do not stop glaucoma drops, blood thinners, diabetes medicines or another prescribed drug because of a website checklist. The surgeon and the prescribing clinician should coordinate changes. The exact measurements and treatment plan belong to your own examination, not a universal package.

Match the problem to the right ophthalmology subspecialty

Cornea and refractive surgery

LASIK, PRK and SMILE correct certain refractive errors, but none is automatically right for every prescription. Corneal shape, thickness, dry eye and other eye disease matter. Glasses or contact lenses may remain the safer choice. Use the FDA checklist to ask about candidacy, night vision and alternatives.

Cataract and intraocular lenses

Ask which lens is proposed and why. A premium lens is not automatically better for someone with retinal disease, glaucoma or particular night-driving needs. The National Eye Institute explains the role of measurements, surgery and follow-up.

Retina and vitreous

Retinal conditions may require repeated injections, laser or vitrectomy. A single injection fee is not a full treatment-plan price. A sudden shower of floaters, flashes or a shadow needs urgent examination where you are, because retinal detachment can threaten sight.

Glaucoma

The aim is to reduce the risk of further optic-nerve damage. Drops, laser or surgery may be considered, but existing lost vision generally cannot be restored. Ask for a target pressure and a home-country monitoring plan. Read the NEI’s treatment overview.

Children and strabismus

Children need age-appropriate evaluation and a clinician used to pediatric eye conditions. The aim may involve function, binocular vision or management of amblyopia in addition to eye alignment. Ask about the possibility of repeat treatment and longer follow-up before planning international travel.

Eyelids, orbit and tear ducts

These problems may be functional, cosmetic or related to deeper orbital disease. Photos can help document a visible eyelid change, but they do not demonstrate visual safety. For a primarily cosmetic eyelid procedure, compare the plastic-surgery guide and ask for a surgeon who works specifically in oculoplastics.

Why a before-and-after face photo cannot verify most eye treatments

For cataract, retinal or glaucoma care, the outside of an eye may look similar before and after treatment even when acuity, retina anatomy or pressure changes. An attractive photograph can also coexist with a serious visual complaint. Ask for relevant measures instead: corrected visual acuity, pressure readings, OCT images, visual-field results or retinal imaging, each with a date and explanation of what it means for your diagnosis. A patient story cannot establish an audited complication rate.

Eyelid and some strabismus cases can involve visible changes. If you examine provider images, look for the same patient’s matched angle and lighting, a stated interval, an explanation of the procedure and consent for display. A visible change still cannot promise your result or replace an eye examination. We therefore do not attach before-and-after image schema to this functional eye-care comparison; it contains no such case gallery.

For laser vision correction, discuss dry eye, glare, halos and night-driving quality as well as the letter chart. For retinal or glaucoma disease, focus on stability and required monitoring rather than a dramatic photograph. Ask the provider how its claimed success is defined and whether results are independently audited and relevant to people with your condition.

Travel, postoperative care and the flight home

Confirm the diagnosis and a provisional plan before arranging travel. Your first appointment in Iran should allow time for the surgeon’s own examination. If the findings change the plan, accept that surgery may be delayed or not advised. Flexible travel is better than allowing an unchangeable return flight to pressure a clinical decision.

After a procedure, follow the individual instructions for drops, eye protection, washing, work and driving. Attend the early review. Before leaving, obtain your operative record, the implanted lens name if relevant, test images, a list of medicines, urgent-contact instructions and a written follow-up plan for your local ophthalmologist. When a surgeon places a gas bubble inside the eye during retinal surgery, flying may be unsafe until the bubble has resolved and the surgeon specifically clears travel; the American Academy of Ophthalmology explains the altitude concern.

Check entry rules at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal and review the current advice issued by your own government, such as the UK travel advisory or US travel advisory. Conditions, entry requirements and insurance coverage can change. Ask an insurer in writing about overseas elective treatment and complications. If pain increases or vision suddenly worsens after returning home, seek urgent local eye care and send its findings to the Iranian treating team.

How hamintour Medical Tourism helps, step by step

We can help organize the records you already have and formulate questions for the right subspecialty. We then coordinate a preliminary provider review, help you compare written responses and request an itemized quote. Once a licensed clinical team proposes a plan that you accept, our practical services can include appointment scheduling, flight booking on request, a hotel suited to the treatment timetable, airport reception, transport between hotel and clinic, interpretation or a patient companion if needed, and help coordinating tests ordered by the doctor.

During the stay, we help with communication and logistics. After return, we can assist in forwarding questions and reports to the treating provider. We cannot examine an eye remotely, handle a medical emergency or guarantee a particular visual outcome. Ask us to distinguish provider charges from any Hamintour coordination service and optional travel items. Compare our written offer with other offers covering the same procedure, eye count, lens, follow-up and inclusions.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a ranking of the ten best eye hospitals in Iran?

No. It is a shortlist supported by original institution sources. There is no comparable audited outcome dataset here to rank these centers for every eye condition. The right choice depends on diagnosis, subspecialist, follow-up and a written plan.

Can a face photo show whether cataract or glaucoma treatment worked?

No. Functional outcomes require clinical measures such as corrected visual acuity, eye pressure, optic-nerve assessment or visual-field testing. A visible eyelid change is a different type of result.

Is LASIK suitable for everyone who wears glasses?

No. The ophthalmologist must examine prescription stability, corneal thickness and shape, tear film and eye health. A different method or no surgery may be safer.

How soon can I fly after retinal surgery?

Only your retina surgeon can clear you. An intraocular gas bubble can make flying unsafe until the bubble resolves; never select a return flight based only on a package schedule.

Will glaucoma surgery restore sight I have already lost?

The usual aim is to reduce eye pressure and lower the risk of further optic-nerve damage. Lost vision from optic-nerve injury generally cannot be restored, so monitoring remains important.

What should a complete price quote state?

The diagnosed condition and exact procedure, whether the fee covers one or two eyes, the surgeon and site, lens or technology, preoperative tests, medicines, early follow-up, exclusions and cancellation terms.

What if I notice sudden flashes and a new dark curtain in my vision?

Seek urgent eye assessment where you are. Do not postpone care in order to organize international travel; these symptoms can indicate a retinal emergency.

Three sensible starting points for a shortlist

These are not the three highest-ranked providers. They illustrate different care settings whose published information makes an initial discussion possible:

  1. Noor Eye Hospital, Tehran has a broad official service list and international-patient section. Ask which branch and subspecialist would manage your diagnosis.
  2. Negah Eye Hospital, Tehran publishes hospital departments and named doctors. It is a practical starting point when a specific cornea or retina consultant must review a case.
  3. Farabi Eye Hospital, Tehran offers a university-hospital pathway. Ask directly about its current international-patient admission process and the relevant clinic.

For some conditions, a different center may be the better match. Start with a diagnosis, then compare the written clinical and financial plans. The full patient guide explains the treatment journey in greater detail.

Sources and limits

Each center and doctor has an original source beside the name. Clinical guidance cited here comes from the US National Eye Institute, the US Food and Drug Administration and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. These bodies explain conditions and safety; they do not certify or rank the Iranian providers on this page. The price examples above come from the named providers’ own pages and should be rechecked before publication or a booking decision. None is a personalized quote or a verified median for Iran.

Provider websites, doctor rosters, appointment availability, travel rules and prices may change. Verify the professional record, facility, surgeon, plan and international-patient eligibility directly. Emergency symptoms require local medical assessment.
