General Surgery Hospitals and Surgeons in Iran
Which hospital is equipped for your operation? Who will actually operate? What is included in the price, and who looks after you once you fly home? This guide helps you compare ten Iranian facilities, ten surgeons’ direct registration records and public international-patient prices before asking for a case-specific plan.
Tehran accounts for eight of the ten hospitals. Start with your diagnosis and the surgeon’s experience in that precise procedure. Our General Surgery in Iran guide explains the wider treatment journey.

Match the diagnosis to the surgical team
“General surgery” covers many different conditions. A doctor who regularly performs a straightforward gallbladder operation may not be the right lead for a complex recurrent hernia, colorectal cancer or revision after a complication. Begin with a diagnosis supported by examination, imaging and, where relevant, endoscopy or biopsy. The safest plan might be monitoring, medicine or an operation closer to home.
| Problem | What needs review | Decision-changing question |
|---|---|---|
| Symptomatic gallstones | Symptoms, ultrasound, bile-duct findings and alternatives. NICE guidance distinguishes asymptomatic from symptomatic disease. | Is removal indicated for me, and what if a bile-duct stone is suspected? |
| Groin or abdominal hernia | Size, previous repair, reducibility, mesh options, open or laparoscopic approach. | Is this a primary or recurrent repair, and which mesh and method are planned? |
| Thyroid or breast mass | Ultrasound, biopsy, pathology and the need for a specialist team. | Is surgery indicated now, and who will explain the final pathology? |
| Colon or rectal condition | Colonoscopy, tissue diagnosis, imaging, stoma possibility and recovery. | Do I need a colorectal or cancer multidisciplinary team? |
| Bariatric or revision surgery | Eligibility, nutrition, prior operation, reflux and long-term follow-up. | Is there a complete bariatric program rather than only an operating surgeon? |
Explore related weight-loss treatment and cancer treatment resources when they fit the diagnosis. Transplantation and complex liver surgery have separate eligibility and legal pathways; do not assume they are standard general-surgery packages.
How we compared the options
We selected institutions with a public official page that a patient can inspect. For doctors we used an individual Iranian Medical Council record plus a clinician or hospital page where available. This establishes a more useful starting point than anonymous “best doctor” lists, but it does not prove case volume, complication rates, current hospital privileges or suitability for you. The number before each hospital merely helps you navigate this page; it is not a rank.
Ask whether the hospital can name the operating surgeon, anesthetist, procedure, ward, ICU access and response to bleeding, infection or unexpected findings. A brand with several branches must name the actual site. A hospital’s surgeon directory may be out of date, while a doctor’s website may list an office that differs from the Medical Council record. Recheck both before paying.
The comparison should use the same case summary, original imaging and questions for every provider. An apparent price difference can reflect different assumptions about diagnosis, operation, mesh, pathology, night count or treatment of a complication. Ask each institution to mark inclusions and exclusions in writing. We do not use star ratings as a substitute for clinical outcomes.
Ten facilities to research
Eight options are in Tehran, where a patient can compare multiple hospitals and travel support arrangements. Mashhad and Rasht add two regional alternatives. The facility descriptions are limited to what their own pages publish; a page does not guarantee that the operation is available for your case.
1. Kasra Hospital
Location: Tehran
Published address: No. 23, Alvand Street, Argentina Square, Tehran
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
A published international-patient price list names gallbladder, hernia, thyroid and colorectal procedures. Its tariff is a useful example, not a personalized quote.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
2. Ebnesina Hospital
Location: Tehran
Published address: Second Sadeghiyeh Square, beginning of Ayatollah Kashani Boulevard, Tehran
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
An international-patient route and hospital doctor directory provide a starting point for asking about the relevant surgical team. Confirm procedure, named surgeon and operating site.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
3. Moheb Mehr Hospital
Location: Tehran
Published address: Valiasr Street, above Vanak Square, Khalilzadeh Street, Tehran
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
The hospital network publishes a patient guide and general-surgery doctor directory. A network listing does not prove that every doctor operates at this particular branch.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
4. Parsa Hospital
Location: Tehran
Published address: South Valiasr Street, near Railway Square, Tehran
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
Its direct general-surgery department page lists clinicians. Ask whether the doctor who reviews your records will also perform the operation and manage follow-up.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
5. Nikan Hospital Network
Location: Tehran
Published address: Aghdasieh reference branch; request the exact site in writing
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
The network has an international-patient service. Nikan has multiple branches, so a proposal should name the exact branch, surgeon, theater and escalation plan.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
6. Asia Hospital
Location: Tehran
Published address: Shahid Beheshti Street, Shahid Ahmad Ghasir Street, Tehran
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
An international-patient department is published. Confirm the proposed operation, anesthesia, overnight care and emergency backup with the institution.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
7. Atieh Hospital
Location: Tehran
Published address: Farahzadi Boulevard at Dadman, Shahrak-e Gharb, Tehran
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
The official doctor directory can help identify a potential surgeon. It does not establish current availability, exact scope of practice or a case-specific quote.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
8. Moheb Kowsar Hospital
Location: Tehran
Published address: Yousef Abad, 23rd Street, beside Shafagh Park, Tehran
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
The network publishes facility information and a surgery directory. Ask the hospital itself whether your specific procedure and surgeon are available at this branch.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
9. Bent Al Hoda Hospital
Location: Mashhad
Published address: Bahar Street, Mashhad
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
The hospital publishes treatment packages that include general-surgery procedures. Its older package figures are not used here as current prices.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
10. Ghaem Hospital
Location: Rasht
Published address: Yakh-Sazi Square, Shahid Eftekhari Boulevard, Rasht
Current case-specific USD quote: request from facility.
The hospital publishes its services and an international-patient procedure document. Obtain a current written quote and named clinician; the document is not a binding price today.
Official facility or service page · Second official source
Check exact surgeon, procedure, branch, final address and complication policy.
We omit unverified map pins. For transport, use the hospital’s written appointment address and confirm it directly. This avoids sending a patient to a namesake branch or old entrance.
Ten surgeons with direct Medical Council records
These records help verify identity and listed professional qualifications; they do not create a “top ten” outcome ranking. Several published practices emphasize laparoscopy or bariatric surgery. Ask for procedure-specific experience, current hospital privileges and an independent second opinion if the condition is complex. English names are transliterations: match the registration number and Persian spelling on the record.
| Surgeon | Published city or listing | Field and qualification note | Registration number and direct profile | Doctor or hospital source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dr Peyman Ali Beigi | Tehran | General surgery; laparoscopy fellowship published | 74063 | Primary source |
| Dr Seyed Sattar Darabi | Tehran | General surgery; laparoscopy fellowship published | 98630 | Primary source |
| Dr Saeed Shams Nosrati | Tehran | General surgery; laparoscopy fellowship published | 121872 | Primary source |
| Dr Farbod Emami Yeganeh | Tehran | General surgery; laparoscopy fellowship published | 131803 | Primary source |
| Dr Mehdi Salimi Afjani | Tehran | General surgery; laparoscopy fellowship published | 100674 | Primary source |
| Dr Pedram Talebian | Tehran | General surgery; laparoscopy fellowship published | 115720 | Primary source |
| Dr Ali Almasi | Tehran clinic published | General surgery; confirm current registered practice city | 114459 | Primary source |
| Dr Mostafa Hojjati Lamraski | Parsa directory | General surgery; confirm current practice site | 133027 | Primary source |
| Dr Reza Karami | Tehran | General surgery; laparoscopy fellowship published | 147741 | Primary source |
| Dr Ali Farahanchi Baradaran | Parsa directory | General surgery; check current subspecialty and practice site | 137482 | Primary source |
A registration record confirms a recorded professional identity and qualification; it is not an audit of current licensing status, operative volume, privileges or outcomes. If the proposed surgeon is absent here, use the Medical Council search yourself rather than treating this sample as exhaustive. Ask the hospital to confirm who performs the key steps and who covers postoperative calls.
Published general-surgery prices in US dollars
The following are from Kasra Hospital’s English international-patient tariff. They are examples from one Tehran hospital, not Iranian national medians, Hamintour-observed quotations or binding prices for your case. The hospital must confirm the fee and coverage after specialist review.
| Procedure as listed | Published USD example | Listed stay | Clarify before paying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laparoscopic gallbladder removal | $4,690 | 2 nights | Bile-duct imaging or additional stone treatment. |
| Inguinal hernia repair | $6,250 | 1 night | Mesh, mesh type, one or both sides. |
| Abdominal hernia repair | $6,250 | 1 night | Recurrent or large defect, complex reconstruction. |
| Thyroidectomy | $3,750 | 2 nights | Partial or total removal, pathology and calcium checks. |
| Colectomy | $5,625 | 4 nights | Possible stoma, ICU or additional cancer care. |
| Appendectomy | $3,125 | 1 night | Acute appendicitis needs urgent local assessment, not a planned treatment trip. |
Verify the surgeon, anesthesia, operating room, consumables or mesh, pathology, scans, medicines, extra nights, readmission and follow-up. Flights, hotel, interpreter and transfers should be itemized separately. The final estimate may change after in-person examination or a revised diagnosis. Ask for an updated written USD quote before consenting.
Gallbladder removal: published country examples
These figures are not matched patient quotes. They show why a public list price is only the beginning of a comparison. The UK listing is in pounds; its approximate USD equivalent below uses an illustrative £1≈$1.33 conversion. Exchange rates change. The US figure is a marketplace purchase range, not a single-hospital quote.
| Country and example | Approximate price in USD | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Iran · Kasra Hospital international tariff | $4,690 | Listed laparoscopic cholecystectomy, two nights; final scope must be confirmed. |
| United Kingdom · Practice Plus Group | About $8,840 | £6,649 listed operation price; the provider also mentions a separate £145 initial consultation/tests. |
| United States · MDsave marketplace | $6,767–$15,697 | Displayed laparoscopic cholecystectomy purchase range; coverage differs by provider and location. |
| Turkey · case-specific inquiry | Written quote needed | No comparable primary-provider USD tariff verified for the same procedure and inclusions. |

Prices, currencies, inclusions and clinical complexity differ; this table does not establish a universal cheapest country.

Questions that make two quotes truly comparable
Ask the surgeon
- What is the working diagnosis, and which examination, image or biopsy supports it?
- Is an operation needed now? What are the reasonable alternatives?
- Why is an open or laparoscopic approach suitable for this particular case?
- Who will perform the key steps, and who handles a change of plan?
- How often does this surgeon perform the proposed procedure, and how are complications recorded?
- What does recovery look like for someone with my age, previous surgery and other conditions?
Ask the hospital
- Which branch, ward, anesthesia service and emergency backup are involved?
- Is ICU, blood supply, endoscopy or interventional imaging available if needed?
- Who calls with a pathology result, and who discusses the next step?
- What happens to the bill if an extra night, readmission or another procedure is needed?
- What records will I receive in English or translation for my doctor at home?
- Who is reachable after discharge, including nights and weekends?
Send each provider the same documents and questions. A preliminary remote opinion may change after examination, updated imaging, laboratory tests or anesthetic assessment. If the answer to a material safety or pricing question is unclear, pause and obtain clarification or a second opinion. A coordinator can organize answers; only a qualified clinician can decide the treatment.
Risks, results and safer comparison
No general-surgery operation is risk-free, and there is no single success percentage for procedures as different as hernia repair, thyroidectomy and colectomy. For laparoscopic gallbladder removal, the NHS describes possible infection, blood clots, bile leak, retained stones and damage to the bile duct or nearby structures. Your risks depend on the diagnosis, health, previous operations and urgency.
Ask the team how it detects and manages the complication most relevant to your procedure: recurrence after hernia repair, voice or calcium problems after thyroid surgery, or a leak and need for stoma after bowel surgery. An advertised “success rate” without a definition, denominator, risk adjustment or follow-up period says little. Request outcomes for comparable cases and ask who collected them. If independently audited results are unavailable, say so in your decision notes.
Check the hospital’s current authorization, the surgeon’s direct record and procedure privileges. The CDC medical tourism guidance recommends attention to infection prevention, records, continuity of care, insurance and travel-related clot risk. Arrange a clinician at home who can review the operative note, pathology, medications and any problem after return.
Plan the journey around care, not a package calendar
Before travel. Gather the referral, diagnosis, ultrasound or CT, endoscopy and biopsy reports if relevant, previous operation notes, medication list and allergies. Ask a specialist whether travel is reasonable. Check your own insurer’s coverage for elective care abroad and complications. Confirm entry requirements through the Iranian foreign ministry visa portal and your nationality’s embassy.
Arrival and review. Allow time for an in-person surgeon visit, anesthesia assessment and any repeat investigations. A hospital may revise or decline a plan. Keep accommodation and flights flexible. Confirm the operating location from the written appointment, not a map search. Ask whether a companion, interpreter or accessible room will be needed.
Hospital stay and discharge. Before consent, review procedure, alternatives, major risks and the financial terms with the licensed team. Ask about pain control, early movement, wound care, medicine changes and warning signs. Obtain an operative report, pathology arrangements, prescriptions, a follow-up appointment and a contact route for problems. After abdominal surgery, the treating team should decide when flying is safe; the CDC notes that both recent surgery and long travel raise clot concerns.
After return. Share the clinical records with a doctor at home and complete planned checks. Fever, worsening pain, red or draining wounds, jaundice, inability to eat, leg swelling, chest pain or shortness of breath require prompt medical assessment. For changeable security conditions, check your own government’s advice, such as the UK travel advice for Iran, before booking and again before departure.
Why this comparison does not use a cosmetic before-and-after gallery
A photographed incision or body shape cannot show whether a bile duct is intact, a hernia has recurred, a thyroid condition is controlled or a colon operation has healed. For general surgery, the useful evidence is diagnosis-specific: imaging, pathology, return of function, complications and follow-up. A provider may share anonymized relevant images or case records with consent, but another patient’s photograph cannot predict your result. We have therefore kept this page focused on verifiable providers and practical care decisions instead of filling it with unrelated before-and-after pictures.
About hamintour Medical Tourism and our services
Hamintour Medical Tourism is an Iran-based medical-travel coordination platform. We can help identify plausible hospitals and clinicians for the condition, transmit records for an initial specialist review, arrange consultations and compare written plans. If requested, we can coordinate flight reservations, accommodation suitable for recovery, airport reception, transport among hotel, hospital, laboratory and imaging center, interpretation or a companion, and practical support during the stay. After the patient returns home, we can help relay follow-up questions and reports to the treating team.
We do not own a hospital or clinic, employ a dedicated medical team, diagnose illness, prescribe medicine or perform surgery. The licensed doctor and facility decide clinical suitability, treatment and discharge. Ask us to separate hospital charges, our coordination services and optional travel costs in the proposed budget. Compare our quote with another proposal based on the same surgeon, site, operation, nights and inclusions; we can help explain differences, but cannot promise the lowest price in every circumstance.

Frequently asked questions
Are these the ten best general-surgery hospitals in Iran?
No. They are ten institutions with primary pages that patients can inspect. The list is not an independently audited ranking of surgical outcomes.
Can Hamintour tell me whether I need surgery?
No. We coordinate records, appointments and travel. A licensed specialist must evaluate you and explain the options and risks.
Is a published price my final price?
No. A hospital tariff is an example. A written case-specific proposal should say what is included and what may change after examination.
Can appendicitis be treated as a planned medical trip?
Suspected acute appendicitis needs prompt local assessment. Do not delay urgent care to arrange international travel.
How do I verify a surgeon?
Open the individual Iranian Medical Council record, match the registration number and ask the hospital to confirm current operating privileges for your exact procedure.
When can I fly after abdominal surgery?
The operating team should decide individually after reviewing healing, complications and blood-clot risk. Do not rely on a standard package timetable.
Do I need a general or subspecialty surgeon?
That depends on the diagnosis. Complex colorectal, endocrine, cancer, recurrent hernia or revision cases may require a subspecialist and multidisciplinary team.
What if the pathology result is ready after I return home?
Before discharge, agree who receives the report, how it will be translated and explained, and which clinician at home will act on it.
Three Hamintour starting options to compare
These are research pathways, not claims that one institution has superior outcomes for everyone.
- Kasra Hospital, Tehran: its international-patient tariff helps establish a public USD reference. Request a new itemized proposal for the exact diagnosis.
- Parsa Hospital, Tehran: the general-surgery department provides a route to named clinicians. Confirm the hospital’s current team and procedure availability.
- Ebnesina Hospital, Tehran: its official doctor directory can support a specialty-specific inquiry. Ask for the named surgeon, operating site and follow-up plan.
For a regional alternative, investigate the official Bent Al Hoda and Ghaem pages above. Geography, procedure, surgeon, complication planning and follow-up should decide the shortlist, not a headline price alone.
Evidence and editorial limits
Direct hospital and clinician sources appear beside each listing. The price section separates one Tehran hospital’s public USD tariff from international examples. NHS, NICE and CDC sources support clinical and travel context. Availability, fees, registration details and travel rules should be checked again before payment. This is general information, not a personal diagnosis or a recommendation to undergo surgery.
