Cancer Treatment Hospitals and Doctors in Iran: A Careful Comparison
When you are facing cancer, the useful question is rarely “Which hospital is best?” It is whether a specific team can review your diagnosis, deliver the exact treatment you may need, explain the likely schedule and hand the plan safely to the clinicians who will care for you at home. This guide helps you compare ten Iranian facilities and ten published physician listings without treating a website claim as a clinical outcome.
The image illustrates a consultation. It does not depict an identified patient or a specific treatment center. This article offers general information; only a licensed treating team can recommend care for an individual.Start with the diagnosis, not a hospital name
The same word “cancer” can describe many different diseases. A treatment decision may depend on pathology, disease stage, molecular findings, previous therapy, other illnesses, and the patient’s goals. An attractive hospital profile cannot answer those questions. The US National Cancer Institute’s questions for your doctor are a practical starting point: What is the goal of treatment, why this option, what alternatives exist, what risks matter, when must treatment begin and how will response be measured?
Before asking for a price, collect the pathology report and, where available, the slides or blocks, original imaging files and reports, current medication list, prior treatment summary and recent laboratory results. The receiving team may need to re-read tissue or repeat a test. Ask precisely what information is missing and whether waiting for it is clinically safe. If you are already receiving treatment, do not interrupt it to arrange a trip without your current oncologist’s advice.
Seek a second opinion when the diagnosis or proposed pathway is uncertain, the treatment is complex, or a decision could have major long-term effects. A second opinion should not become an indefinite delay. Ask the physicians how quickly a decision is needed for your disease. The final recommendation must come from a licensed physician and treatment facility with access to the full medical record.
Which team fits the question?
| Starting situation | Relevant team or service to ask about | Records to send | What a website cannot tell you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breast tumor with biopsy | Breast surgeon, medical oncologist, imaging and radiation team when indicated | Pathology, receptor results and breast images | Whether surgery comes first, how much tissue must be removed, or whether systemic therapy is indicated |
| Colon or rectal cancer | Colorectal surgical team with medical oncology; radiation may matter particularly for some rectal cancers | Biopsy, colonoscopy report, staging images | Whether a quoted colectomy corresponds to your location, stage or need for a stoma |
| Suspected lung cancer | Thoracic and medical oncology, pathology, molecular testing and radiation as relevant | Biopsy, original scans and test results | Whether the tumor is operable or a particular drug is appropriate |
| Leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma | Hematology-oncology; transplant service only when clinically indicated | Blood work, marrow or node pathology and subtype | That “stem-cell transplant” is available, necessary or safe for this patient |
| Child with cancer | Pediatric oncology and family support | Diagnosis, imaging and full treatment schedule | That adult-care facilities or a local charity’s eligibility rules apply to an international child |
Many pathways require more than one discipline. The NCI explains cancer surgery, while its radiation therapy guide makes clear why radiation plans differ by tumor and aim. A center advertising one machine does not establish that it can deliver the complete sequence or respond to complications. Ask who will make a joint decision, whether the case is discussed across specialties, and which institution is responsible at each stage.
Ten Iranian facilities to investigate by care pathway
Tehran provides several of the published options below, while Mashhad, Isfahan and Kashan may fit a more specific service or travel plan. A cancer institute, a pediatric hospital, a radiotherapy center and a diagnostic center are not interchangeable. Each link goes to the provider or a recognized organization’s profile. Confirm current services, international eligibility and the exact team directly before relying on a listing.
1. Cancer Institute, Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex
Location: Tehran. Academic cancer institute; verify the tumor-specific clinic and current international-patient pathway.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask which team will review pathology and whether surgery, systemic therapy and radiation can be coordinated within the complex.
2. Barkat Comprehensive Cancer Center
Location: Tehran. Cancer-focused hospital publishing diagnostic, pathology, infusion and radiation services.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask whether your prescribed drug, radiation technique and appointment sequence are available for your case.
3. Shariati Hospital, Tehran University of Medical Sciences
Location: Tehran. University hospital worth investigating for complex cases and hematology pathways.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask for the named disease-specific department and a written decision on whether your referral is accepted.
4. MAHAK Hospital for Children with Cancer
Location: Tehran. Pediatric oncology hospital and support organization; adult oncology is outside its focus.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask about international eligibility, pediatric subspecialty, caregiver accommodation and continuity with the child’s home team.
5. Ebnesina Hospital
Location: Tehran. Hospital publishing hematology and oncology plus a breast-care department.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask whether your disease needs a separate surgical, radiation or transplant service and who joins the case review.
6. Kasra Hospital
Location: Tehran. Multispecialty hospital that publishes an international-patient tariff, including selected operations.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask what the procedure price includes and whether postoperative pathology, drugs or radiotherapy are outside it.
7. Rasa Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center
Location: Isfahan. Diagnostic and treatment center with a published international-patient department.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask which stages are done on site and which require referral to a hospital or another center.
8. Reza Radiotherapy and Oncology Center
Location: Mashhad. Radiation-oncology center with a direct provider website and UICC member profile.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask for the exact technique, simulation process, fractions, physician and management of side effects.
9. Ayatollah Yasrebi Hospital, Moheb Group
Location: Kashan. Multispecialty hospital; confirm tumor-specific services rather than assuming every cancer pathway is offered.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask whether the required oncology discipline and emergency support are currently available at this branch.
10. Milad Hospital Clinical Cancer Research Center
Location: Tehran. Published clinical-cancer-research center associated with Milad Hospital.
Primary source: provider or organization profile · further facility page
Ask: Ask which clinical service will treat you, rather than treating a research-center listing as confirmation of a treatment slot.
Published facilities may change clinicians, equipment, admission rules and available medicines. In particular, verify whether the medical center itself can provide the exact regimen, operation or radiation technique proposed, and whether the hospital will accept an overseas patient with your medical circumstances. The UICC profile for the Cancer Institute and the UICC profile for MAHAK establish organizational identities; neither is a certification of your personal outcome.
Ten published physician listings: verify the person, specialty and treatment site
The names below come from hospital department or practice-group pages and span different oncology disciplines. They are not a ranked list of the best oncologists, and a published listing does not establish availability for an international patient. We did not confirm direct, individual Iranian Medical Council profile URLs for these ten names, so no registration numbers are represented as verified here. Before booking, request the clinician’s full name and registration number and check it directly on the Iranian Medical Council register. Ask the center to confirm that the named person will actually assess or treat your case.
| Published name | Field shown by provider | Publishing facility | Direct provider source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Azad Tavakoli | Medical oncology and hematology | Ebnesina Hospital | View provider listing |
| Behrouz Gharib | Medical oncology and hematology | Ebnesina Hospital | View provider listing |
| Seyedeh Najmeh Ghasemi | Medical oncology and hematology | Ebnesina Hospital | View provider listing |
| Sadaf Sadeghi Yazdankhah | Radiation oncology | Ebnesina Hospital | View provider listing |
| Mahnaz Akbari | Breast surgery, as published by provider | Ebnesina Hospital | View provider listing |
| Reza Pourriahi | Breast surgery, as published by provider | Ebnesina Hospital | View provider listing |
| Farzam Shahburi | Breast surgery, as published by provider | Ebnesina Hospital | View provider listing |
| Soheil Vejdani | Radiation oncology | Tehran Oncology Group | View provider listing |
| Afshin Saadipour | Radiation oncology | Tehran Oncology Group | View provider listing |
| Mehdi Ghajari | Radiation oncology | Tehran Oncology Group | View provider listing |
Do not assume that any doctor in this separate list works at one of the ten facilities above unless their cited provider page says so. The link establishes a published profile or department listing; it does not establish a clinical outcome, independent credential check or current appointment. Ask for the treating physician, the hospital where each treatment takes place and who provides emergency cover.
Costs in USD: the useful comparison is a complete, written plan
There is no single price for “cancer treatment.” Pathology review, stage, a drug’s exact name and dose, number of cycles, radiation fractions, type of surgery, days in hospital and complications can all change the amount. One Tehran hospital publishes USD international-patient tariffs for certain operations. They are useful to show that a patient can ask for a concrete written figure, but they are not national averages, Hamintour-observed quotations, or full cancer-care packages.
| Operation on Kasra Hospital’s international tariff | Published USD figure | Hospital stay shown | Check separately |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mastectomy | $4,690 | One night | Sentinel-node procedure, pathology, reconstruction and later therapy |
| Lung cancer surgery | $7,500 | One week | Type of resection, fitness assessment, intensive care and medicines |
| Colectomy | $5,625 | Four nights | Extent of surgery, possible stoma and additional stay |
| Whipple operation for pancreatic cancer | $15,625 | One week | Eligibility, ICU needs and further therapy |
| Craniotomy for brain tumor | $7,500 | One week | Neurosurgical plan, pathology and postoperative care |

What can be compared across countries?
Published examples exist, but their inclusions differ. In the table below, the Iranian entry is a Tehran hospital procedure line; the UK example is a price from one private hospital that includes an initial consultation and stated aftercare. There is no verified, like-for-like all-treatment price for Türkiye or the United States in the sources reviewed. A blank country quote is more honest than a made-up “average.”
| Location | Published mastectomy-related example in USD | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Iran: Kasra Hospital | $4,690 | Listed mastectomy procedure, one-night stay; check exclusions |
| United Kingdom: Spire Alexandra Hospital | About $9,800 | From £7,538 including listed initial consultation; approximate currency illustration |
| Türkiye | Individual written quote needed | No verified like-for-like provider tariff included here |
| United States | Individual written quote needed | Facility, surgeon, anesthesia and insurance terms vary |
All figures are approximate and are not comparable complete cancer-treatment packages. Source names: Kasra Hospital international-patient tariff; Spire Alexandra Hospital mastectomy self-pay page. Illustrative conversion: £1 ≈ $1.30, not a live exchange rate. Ask for a current itemized quote for each destination; include diagnostics, surgery, anesthesia, medicines, radiotherapy, follow-up, travel and treatment of complications.
For drugs and radiation, a numerical figure without the exact regimen can be actively misleading. Request a line-by-line estimate naming each drug, dose schedule, number of planned cycles or fractions, tests, scans, treatment setting, administration and management of side effects. Check payment currency, accepted payment method, deposits, refund rules and changes if the pathology review revises the plan. Compare our itemized offer with other written offers of the same clinical scope. A lower headline fee is valuable only when the needed care and follow-up are actually covered.
Request a case-specific review and itemized estimate
Tell us the cancer type if known, where you are in the diagnostic process, what treatment has already been given and the safest way to share your records. We can coordinate a preliminary review by an appropriate provider and help you compare its written proposal. A coordinator cannot decide your treatment or guarantee a place or price before the treating team reviews your case.

Decide whether travel fits the treatment plan
Before booking
Ask your current oncology team whether you are medically fit to travel and whether any delay or interruption would change the outlook. Chemotherapy, surgery and advanced cancer can affect infection risk, clot risk, stamina and the ability to fly. Cancer Research UK’s travel guidance explains why a clinician’s individualized advice, medicines, insurance and emergency planning matter. If you have fever during treatment, new breathlessness, uncontrolled bleeding, severe pain or another urgent symptom, seek immediate local medical care; do not wait for travel arrangements.
Ask the prospective center to state whether it has reviewed the pathology itself, what further tests it needs, who is responsible for the decision, what is available now, and the earliest realistic start date. Do not buy nonrefundable flights on the basis of a marketing promise. Check the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa portal and the current travel advisory issued by your own government. Conditions can change; neither an article nor a coordinator can guarantee entry, travel safety or visa approval.
During the stay
Allow room in the schedule for in-person assessment, possible repeat imaging or pathology review, treatment, observation and a change in plan. Have the name and number of the hospital contact for urgent questions, including outside clinic hours. Ask whether there is a nearby emergency department familiar with the treatment. If an operation is planned, clarify who follows wounds, pathology and any new finding. If radiation or systemic therapy is planned, know the total number of visits and what happens if a session is postponed.
Before leaving Iran
Request the final diagnosis and stage, a copy of pathology and imaging, operative report if relevant, exact medication names and doses, radiation record if relevant, discharge summary, follow-up schedule and warning signs. Give these to the clinician who will continue care at home. The CDC guidance on medical tourism stresses planning for complications and continuity after return. If a drug, test or infusion is unavailable at home, the whole plan may need reconsideration before the first overseas session.
For fertility concerns, discuss preservation before gonadotoxic treatment when time and clinical circumstances permit. For a complex operation, ask whether recovery and flight timing have been individualized. For children, involve the pediatric oncologist, caregiver and home team from the start. A short tourist itinerary must never dictate the medical timetable.
What hamintour Medical Tourism can coordinate
hamintour Medical Tourism is a medical-tourism coordination platform. It is not a hospital, clinic or treating medical team, and it does not diagnose cancer, prescribe drugs or perform treatment. The licensed treating physician and facility determine whether an intervention is appropriate and obtain informed consent.
We can help organize your records and questions, identify institutions whose published services are relevant to the case, request a preliminary specialist review, arrange contact and appointments, and obtain written estimates that spell out what is included. If a physician recommends tests or imaging, we can help schedule them. We can also coordinate accommodation near the facility, flights if requested, airport pickup, travel between hotel and hospital, interpretation or a patient companion when needed, and practical support during the stay. After you return, we can help transmit follow-up questions and reports to the treating center.
Ask exactly who supplies each service, what it costs and what happens when plans change. We encourage you to compare a clear Hamintour-coordinated proposal with alternatives, including your local care options. We cannot promise the lowest market price, a fixed response time, access to a medicine, a cure or a specific clinical outcome. Explore the medical-tourism platform, the medical magazine or our Cancer Treatment in Iran guide. The radiotherapy guide and oncology-center overview offer related reading. If you are considering related procedures, the general surgery guide explains the travel pathway for surgical care.
Frequently asked questions
Which Iranian hospital is best for cancer treatment?
No single center is best for every tumor, stage or patient. Compare the specialty team, required tests and treatment availability, current acceptance, emergency support, written plan and follow-up.
Can I get a reliable cancer-treatment price before sending records?
Usually not for a full course. A hospital may publish a procedure tariff, but drugs, scans, pathology, radiation and complications depend on the individual plan. Request an itemized written estimate after a clinical review.
Will the doctors listed treat me at the hospitals listed?
Do not assume so. The physician directory is separate. Ask the provider to name the actual treating team, confirm the facility and verify each clinician’s current registration directly.
Should I stop my current cancer treatment to travel?
No change to a prescribed treatment should be made from this article. Discuss timing, travel fitness and the risks of interruption with your current oncologist and the proposed receiving team.
Can I return home between cycles or after surgery?
Sometimes, but the schedule depends on the regimen, recovery and access to urgent care. Both teams should agree in writing on who handles the next visit, medication, tests and complications.
Is a medical visa guaranteed?
No. Check the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal and the official advice for your nationality. Eligibility and timing can change.
Three sensible starting points for a shortlist
These are starting points by service type, not the three best centers by outcomes. Each has a directly checkable organizational source. The right choice depends on the tumor, stage, available treatment and your current medical team’s advice.
- Cancer Institute at Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex, Tehran: a research starting point for a complex adult case requiring an academic cancer institute. Ask for the relevant tumor-specific clinic and how pathology and multiple specialties review the case. View organizational profile.
- Barkat Comprehensive Cancer Center, Tehran: a starting point when your plan may require diagnostic work, infusion and radiation coordination. Verify the exact drug and technology before travel. View hospital services.
- MAHAK Hospital, Tehran: a pediatric-specific starting point when the patient is a child. Ask about eligibility for an international child, family arrangements and the precise subspecialty pathway. View the organization.
For a radiation-focused question in Mashhad, Reza Radiotherapy and Oncology Center is another relevant service-specific source to investigate. A qualified oncologist, not this shortlist, should determine the final referral.
